Rheumatology can be explained as a branch of medicine that deals with the study of pathogens in joints and muscles. It also refers to the treatment of these and such other rheumatic diseases. In order for the rheumatologists to understand any disease in rheumatology, they have to study the immune system and genetics. Many people do suffer from these diseases but due to modern medicine, they live healthy and normal lives. Below are some of the common diseases that are related to rheumatology.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a common disease in the elderly. It is the inflammation of joints, or joints in the musculoskeletal system. It is a very serious disease and if not well taken care of, it can cause disability. There are very many different types of arthritis. It is upon your doctor or the rheumatologist, to tell you which type of arthritis you are suffering from. However, no matter the type, there is a possible way of living and managing it. It is the type of arthritis that you have that will determine the cause of it. Some of the common causes include: autoimmune, infections and lack of fluid in the specific joint. Some of the common types of arthritis include:

Lupus Erythematosus

Lupus Erythematosus, commonly known as just Lupus, is a collection of autoimmune diseases. This means that the body of the particular person suffering from Lupus attacks itself therefore destroying healthy tissues and cells. There are also very many different types of Lupus. There is no clear reason as to why some people get Lupus. However, it might be possible that genes, various medicines and some viruses might be involved. It is common to find that members of the same family have Lupus and so in some aspect, it can be hereditary. Once one is diagnosed with Lupus, they have to live with it as there is no known cure for it yet.

Lyme disease

Lyme disease is also a disease that is studied in Rheumatology. It is normally spread by ticks and just one bite might transfer the bacteria to the individual. Due to this, it is commonly found among people who live with livestock or in farms. This disease is studied in rheumatology due to the fact that if left untreated, it affects the heart, joints and even the central nervous system. It is therefore important that it is diagnosed early. It is a treatable disease if caught early. An individual with it will be required to take some anti- biotic tablets to clear the bacteria off. The most common symptoms include a circular bull’s eye rash on the skin or just a circular rash on the skin.

Gout

Gout is more or less similar to arthritis. It involves the inflammation of a joint till it gets hot, red and swollen. It is a very painful disease and mainly affects the foot’s big toe. After being diagnosed with gout, one will need to change their lifestyle in order to control the symptoms. This might involve a great change in one’s diet as this is one of the common causes of gout. It might also be caused by genetics.
